LSA 2019: The Teachers Are Here

In January, a panel of six teachers - me, Amy Plackowski, Abraham Leach, John Van Way, Victoria Kirgesner, and Teaira McMurty - presented a series of talks at the Linguistic Society of America conference in NYC about our experiences with presenting linguistics in our classrooms.

  1. Hi! I have a 10th grader who is interested in linguistics and would like to take a class this summer. Unfortunately, what we've been able to find are classes through colleges and universities which cost upwards of $3,000 for a few weeks. Do you know of any programs or opportunities (even unpaid internships) for students his age. FYI, we're in the Boston area. Thanks in advance!

    1. Not sure if something like this is what you're looking for, and it looks like it has already filled up for this summer, but the summer after my 10th grade year I was a student at Ohio State University's SLIYS (Summer Linguistics Institute for Youth Scholars). I highly recommend it!
